What Are CBD Tinctures?

CBD Tinctures contain all the rich benefits of the cannabis plant in high concentrations and are administered orally.

CBD Tincture is not CBD oil. Although the process of cultivating them are the same, a tincture is derived by soaking the cannabis plant in an alcohol and water solution, while to concort CBD oil, plant extracts are infused in a carrier oil, like coconut, olive or hemp seed.

It is important to check the label before purchasing a CBD tincture. The Journal of American Medical Association, noted that only 30% are labeled accurately. Critical indicators of purity to look for in a tincture, is the Certificate of Analysis, or COA, which records the tincture’s level of cannabinoid and its level of purity.  Yet another indicator is whether food-grade alcohol was used. Tinctures are ingested, therefore, it is important that they are safe to consume.

Tinctures need to be taken in small doses as it is extremely concentrated. Be safe and restrict your intake. If you are taking for therapeutic purpose, small doses will suffice. They come with a dropper making it easy to administer.

Potent tinctures contain terpenes. The cannabis plant contains medicinal constituents called terpenes that provide aroma and flavor. Sometimes other plants or herbs are added to boost its medicinal value. Since its intake is to ease specific ailments, the kind of terpenes added is to target those particular symptoms. Myrcene, for example, is added to reduce anxiety. Limonene, is added to help improve mood.

CBD Tinctures have powerful benefits and are therefore expensive. Cheaper Tinctures available in the market may contain isolates and not terpenes, and may not be effective.

Staying informed and keeping all the facts in mind, will guide you in your decision making about what you are taking and how you are meant to take any of the products.
